August 25, 2023, Andover, MA: The upcoming performance by local non-profit Voices of Hope is all about moments. The opening number from Voices of Hope’s one-night benefit production of Broadway Rock & Reel starts with these lyrics, “Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for…,” and ends with, “This is the greatest show!” These words from The Greatest Showman ring true as the all-volunteer organization anticipates achieving its long-awaited goal of donating one million dollars to cancer research with proceeds from this powerful and uplifting performance.
Shifting from a series of traditional Broadway productions including Children of Eden,Working, Fiddler on the Roof, Titanic, and most recently, The Music Man, Broadway Rock & Reel represents an array of music from Broadway’s most popular rock scores, jukebox musicals, and stage-to-screen adaptations. Every number has been carefully selected to elicit joy, energy, empathy, unity, fun, and HOPE!
Audience members of all ages will be treated to a high-octane journey of song and dance through a series of performances from classic to contemporary rock includingsuch familiar songs as Jailhouse Rock, Stand By Me, Mamma Mia!, I Feel the Earth Move, For Good, Greased Lightning, and Aquarius, along with some of Broadway’s more recent rock hits including Hadestown, SIX The Musical, and Come From Away.
Voices of Hope represents a multi-generational cast of local performers who are all connected by a common love of theatre and a desire to make cancer history. Through song, dance, and personal stories, they will touch your hearts and minds as you learn the incredible impact this organization has been able to achieve on behalf of the Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies at Mass General Cancer Center.
Funds raised by Voices of Hope directly support bold new directions of cancer research. Immunotherapy, as well as the incredible advances in genomics and targeted therapies, are creating a whole new generation of treatment options and increased hope for both current and future generations of individuals and families impacted by cancer.
In the closing number, Welcome to the Rock, the cast will sing: “You are here at the start of a moment…” This one-night performance will represent a collective moment for the members of Voices of Hope and the audience members alike who—for the price of a ticket—can all say, I helped donate one million dollars to cancer research!
